Our last day of DFI

Just completed our Google for Education Certification Exam Yay!! It was good to see that all the things we have been learning about I could use my knowledge of these to pass this exam. I now have a level 1 certificate in google educator.

Today we also briefly looked through google classroom and how it can be used. I thought it was useful to learn about another aspect around google but I probably wouldn't use google classrooms as it is not as user friendly as sites and you cannot customize it as much as google sites.

Today was also a chance to look into the slide about ubiquitous learning. When learning is rewindable and can be accessible anywhere, anytime.
My knowledge around the Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy has definitely changed my teaching practice. I now believe I am using digital devices and applications more successfully to aide in my teaching and have become more aware about what I am using in my teaching and why instead of just using it for the sake of it.
I have thoroughly enjoyed coming to learn more about digital fluency and feel that my classroom will benefit hugely one thing at a time.

Computational Thinking

Notes from today!! Had lots of fun playing around with the dash bots and learning how to use scratch!
Getting started with scratch

Green screens- allow for background to be edited or use the person and add a new background

Dash smart bots- Green screen background, code, app on ipads (Blockly)
Stop motion animation- pizza boxes made into green screen backgrounds, spray painted green, stopmotion studio (works on ipads and chromebooks)
Scratch project- online can even use yourself as a sprite: Upload yourself and remove background https://remove.bg/ Also a scratch junior for the juniors at school

Paint 3D- Windows 10 native application or www.autodraw.com

Sphero bots

(Get from pbtech, modern teaching aids)

Stand for ipad off ebay-manfrotto

Dealing with Data

Today's session has taken me down to Tautoro School in Kaikohe. We are going to be looking into dealing with data today.
My reflection from last week... So far what is working well in my classroom is having my class site set up and ready for parents and students to use and look at different resources. It is hard being in a new entrant class that has limited Ipads and students that are not as confident on their devices. So I have been working on this and just giving them opportunities to use the Ipads, take photos, record their knowledge and explore their class site. My class is really enjoying this and they are enjoying sharing their learning through devices.

Today I found really useful as we looked into google spreadsheets and google forms. It was cool to look at google forms and use it as a quiz after lessons or ways to quickly find information. It was also nice to look at spreadsheets as we went through a lot of ways to make it easier to use and analyse data. Below is a graph that I have embeded into my blog to show how spreadsheets data can be analysed and made into charts to view data.

Myself and my colleague have also decided after today that we would like to share back some of the knowledge that we have been learning from our DFI course. I learnt today how to create a google form and it require a breakout type feature. Here is my google form. I was just trying to make a quick form to use the tools that I learnt today :)

Enabling Access

This week we have looked at google sites and making them accessible for all learners. I found this week very engaging and interesting as before I was not able to access the class site for Piwakawaka. Now I have access, I have been working on setting it up so that there are resources and activities for parents and students to complete at school and at home.

I have now set up links through my class site which take students/parents to different sites and activities.

Setting up google sites

I have also been practising on the google fundamentals training, which is making me think more about the tools I use in my classroom and what I am using when. Hopefully the exam won't be too hard!!
